Multiple staff members at the Sunrise Hospital attempted to take a secret photograph of Lamar Odom as he was fighting for his life. The accused employees have now been fired. Here’s what else we know.
Just despicable. Employees at the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, where Lamar Odom, 35, was hospitalized on Oct. 13, attempted to exploit the former NBA star’s condition and have subsequently been fired. Multiple hospital workers tried to both take a photo of Lamar as he struggled to survive, as well as access his medical records, which is illegal under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. The hospital has released a statement, speaking out on behalf of the violations. “We take all patient privacy very seriously and follow all HIPAA policies in compliance with federal regulations,” a representative for the hospital told TMZ. Luckily, Lamar has already left Sunrise for Cedars-Sinai facility in Los Angeles.
Sadly, this sort of betrayal by hospital staffers is nothing new. Britney Spears, 33, faced similar medical exploitation years ago while in hospital, as did Lamar’s former sister in law, Kim Kardashian, 35, according to TMZ.
Despite the hardships Lamar has faced since he was first found unconscious on the 13th, he is managing to stay optimistic on his road to recovery. “One thing that is important for Lamar, and something he’s really concentrating on, is not letting any negative thoughts affect his recovery,” a source revealed to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “He’s remained very positive through all his issues, despite not having much mobility, which is something that could’ve got him down being the athlete he is.”
It is so admirable that Lamar continues to look at the bright side during such challenging times. We send him all the positive vibes in the world as he regains his strength.
