Sorry, Elsa. Caitlyn Jenner is the new queen of Halloween. The costume based on Cait’s iconic ‘Vanity Fair’ cover is reportedly the hottest outfit of the holiday season, reportedly outselling last year’s must-have ‘Frozen’ getups to become the most wanted costume of the year!
Keep an eye out when you attend a Halloween party — you might just see Caitlyn Jenner. Chances are, you’ll see at least two or three! While last year’s Halloween was all about Frozen‘s Anna, Elsa and Olaf, fans finally decided to let it go and move on to the next big costume fad: Caitlyn!
Several costume companies tells TMZ that they costume based on Caitlyn’s Vanity Fair cover — featuring her in a white corset — is “the most in-demand getup this season.” A rep for Wholesale Halloween Costumes even said they haven’t “seen a craze like this since Frozen last year. They’ve even been sold out of the “Call Me Caitlyn” costume since 1,000 units “flew off [the] shelves” in August.
Wow. It seems everyone wants to be Caitlyn for Halloween this year. When the news first broke that Spirit Halloween was producing an I Am Cait outfit, there were questions whether turning the high-profile transgender woman into a costume was in good taste. The first image of a competitor’s “Call Me Caitlyn” costume featured a hairy-chested male model and the outfit drew comparisons to similarly offensive costumes like Cecil The Lion’s Killer and Sexy Donald Trump.
But what does Caitlyn actually thinks about the outfit? She might be excited that everyone is going as her for Halloween. The I Am Cait star told Matt Lauer that she’s “in on the joke” and that she doesn’t think the costume is offensive. “I know the [LGBTQ] community does, and [Spirit Halloween has] gotten lot of criticism for doing it. I think it’s great,” Caitlyn said. Her only criticism — the costume could have featured a better outfit!
The same could be said for Ashley Benson, who was slammed after she showed off her “Sexy Cecil The Lion” costume. After apologizing to her fans for the “hurtful” wardrobe choice, she was out of an outfit for Halloween. With the popular Caitlyn outfits being sold out everywhere, Ashley might have to pick up one of the leftover Frozen costumes instead.
What do you think about the “Call Me Caitlyn” outfit being so popular, HollywoodLifers? Do you think it’s a tasteless costume or all in good fun?
