Country duo Joey + Rory made the heartbreaking announcement that Joey is stopping her treatments for Stage IV cervical cancer. The loving husband and wife are canceling the rest of their tour to spend their precious time together at home.
Joey + Rory, married couple Joey and Rory Feek, announced on Friday, October 23 that they would be canceling the remainder of the dates on their 2015 Farmhouse Concert tour. Joey made the unimaginably difficult decision to stop treatment for her cervical cancer, and the duo are going to spend their time together at home.
“It is with great regret that we must cancel our November and December Joey + Rory Farmhouse Concert dates effective immediately due to Joey’s health,” a statement posted to Joey + Rory’s website on October 23 reads. “Thank you for your understanding and prayers.”
This is so incredibly sad. We can’t imagine what this tight couple is going through right now. Rory also posted to his blog the same day, explaining that they tried a round of chemotherapy for Joey’s Stage IV cancer, but it was ineffective. Prior to making their announcement, doctors performed CT scans on Joey found several tumors had grown throughout her abdomen. They made the hard decision to stop treatment after hearing that prognosis.
“Sometimes there just aren’t enough surgeries – or doctors — or chemotherapies — or prayers,” Rory wrote. “And you have to wipe the tears from your cheeks and say the words that you were hoping to never have to say … Enough.”
“We came home. Not to die. But to live,” he continued. “To put our hands in each others and sit out on the back porch and watch the sun set as our sweet little baby girl plays on a blanket in front of us. To bask in the glory of the beautiful life He’s blessed us with, and try not to question why we can’t have more of it together. And why He is allowing this to happen.”
Joey and Rory married in 2002, and had daughter Indiana Feek in February 2014. As Joey + Rory, they’ve rocked the country and bluegrass scene with hits like “Cheater Cheater.” Their band formed as the third-place contestants on CMT’s Can You Duet in 2008!
HollywoodLifers, help us send our love and well wishes to Joey + Rory in the comments
