High school wasn’t always easy for Sarah Silverman. During her Oct. 22 appearance on Inside The Actor’s Studio, the actress, 44, confessed that freshman year was “terrifying” because of her struggle with depression. Watch an EXCLUSIVE clip of Sarah opening up to host James Lipton about her fight with the disease now.
“I missed a few months of school freshman year because I was afraid to go to school. I was so depressed and so terrified. I was taking — at 13 years old — four Xanax four times a day. Sixteen pills a day,” Sarah confesses in the clip.
It wasn’t until she started seeing another psychiatrist that a light at the end of the tunnel opened up. “I ended up going to another psychiatrist, Dr. Santiago, a Mexican in New Hampshire, who really saved my life. He couldn’t believe the amount of meds I was put on. He had me go off of it, a half a pill a day at a time per week,” she continues.
Recently, Sarah has been very brave about her struggles. She opened up to Glamour about how she felt like a “zombie walking through life” before she got help.
“My whole perspective changed,” she told the magazine. “I went from being the class clown to not being able to see life in that casual way anymore. I couldn’t deal with being with my friends, I didn’t go to school for months, and I started having panic attacks…I was a zombie walking through life.”
