We caught up with celeb stylist Brad Goreski, who told us how to recreate a tone-on-tone look, just like Kendall Jenner and Kim Kardashian. Read on to find out how to rock one color from head-to-toe right here!
Not only does Brad Goreski enlighten us each week on Fashion Police, but when he isn’t taping he’s busy dressing stylish A-listers, (like Lea Michele and Bella Thorne). We got to catch up with the fashion-forward stylist, who helped Marshalls celebrate the opening of their 1,000 store. Brad told us how to instantly take you look from tired to totally chic with one simple trend that anyone can rock this season — and it’s a look the Kardashian/Jenner crew has totally mastered.
When it comes to embracing trends, it’s great to take yourself out of your comfort zone — but make sure you don’t lose sight of your personal sense of style or your body type. “Here’s the thing about trends. I think its important to try as many on as possible, so I think for each person its really a question of trial and error and really allowing yourself to kind of wear the things you wouldn’t necessarily think are your style and see if they work,” Brad said. Do’t be afraid to think outside of the box![hl_amazon_single url=”http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014EBE164/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=211189&creative=373489&creativeASIN=B014EBE164&link_code=as3&tag=hollywoocom-20&linkId=7H5YTWSXASGLMSVP” header=”SHOP ” title=”Buy A Suede Crop Top & Matching Skirt Under $40″]
Want to instantly add a sophisticated, chic vibe to your wardrobe in a trendy way? That’s simple — try a single color from head-to-toe. “I love a full tone on tone look like a nude or a cream,” Braid said. “You know, Kim Kardashian does it really, really well and I like that whole look. I think it looks really chic for the fall.” We couldn’t agree more! So, how do you work it?
Step 1 — choose a color scheme. That means pick one color and get ready to rock it from head-to-toe — but be sure to pay attention to the shades. “Tone on tone neutrals can be very chic for fall,” Brad said.
Step 2 — it’s all about how you layer it. “Make sure when you layer that you mix heavy and light fabrics. Try a chunky knit with a long chiffon, or silky shirt underneath and skinny jeans,” Brad said.
If you don’t know how to try the tonal trend, keep it simple with the silhouettes — stick to shapes that you know work well on your body type. For example, the most classic way to rock the look is by starting with a long-sleeved, form-fitting dress, just like Kim. Next, layer a duster coat in the same color over the look. Not only will you instantly achieve the style, but you can also mix and match the pieces with other items in your closet. Duster coats are totally having a moment this season, and look amazing over everything from a chic sheath dress to skinny jeans or trousers — and you don’t have to splurge to achieve this trendy look! “The really great thing about Marshalls is that you’ll be surprised by the designer pieces you can find, all at incredible prices,” Brad added.
Finally, don’t rule out white! Now this is on rule we totally stand by. “Allow yourself to throw the rules out the window! I think a lot of us have gotten so bogged down by what we shouldn’t do — allow an element surprise to come back in to your wardrobe,” he said. So, how can you rock a tonal winter white look?
“Winter white is so chic because its not bright white, its more of a creamy white. If you get it in a nice fabric, there’s something super elegant about it — especially leading up to the holidays,” he said.
If you pay attention to the hue and mix and match, you can look just as chic as our fave celebs — and you don’t have to splurge to recreate these covetable celeb looks. If you want to recreate the look and show a little skin, (just like Kim!), you can do so with a crop top and matching pencil skirt — and we love this look in a cool suede, which incorporates another major fall trend.
