Gwen Stefani, 45, stood strong and tall onstage at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC on October 17 and sang her heart out with a new song she called “really special.” That was an understatement; her emotional new ballad “Used to Love You” pulled heartstrings with the pain and sadness Gwen displayed singing about a lost love. Gavin Rossdale, are you listening?

“I just want to share a song that I wrote recently. This song is really special,” Gwen told the packed-out crowd before launching into her heartbreaking song. There’s no question who these lyrics are about. It’s pointed, ever so crushingly, at the man she was married to for 13 years, before they announced their split in Summer 2015. Oh, Gwen!

“I thought I was the best thing that ever happened to you,” Gwen sang as a giant video of herself fighting back tears played behind her. “I guess nobody taught you how to love.” The song describes a life-changing split that leaves Gwen crushed, as her guy “pulls out the driveway” and leaves her behind. They may have been in love, but they hate each other now. Read the full lyrics below:

Yeah, boy
Thought this would happen
I let it sink in, you’re gone
I don’t know, know what I’m feeling
I must be dreaming, you’re gone

I thought I was the best thing that ever happened to you
I thought you loved me the most

I don’t know why I cry
But I think it’s cause I remembered for the first time
Since I hated you
That I used to love you
I don’t know why I cry
But I think it’s cause I remembered for the first time
Since I hated you
That I used to love you

Oh, oh, oh, oh
I used to love you
Oh, oh, oh, oh
I used to love you

Are you gone?
There were no boundaries
What, you just pushed me too far
I guess nobody taught you
Nobody taught you how to love
Suitcase, band-aids
Pulling back out the driveway
You go, I’ll stay
You can keep all the memories
I thought I was the best thing that ever happened to you
I thought you loved me the most

I don’t know why I cry
But I think it’s cause I remembered for the first time
Since I hated you
That I used to love you
I don’t know why I cry
But I think it’s cause I remembered for the first time
Since I hated you
That I used to love you

Oh, oh, oh, oh
I used to love you
Oh, oh, oh, oh
I used to love you

You know I was the best thing that ever happened to you
I thought you loved me more, oh
You know I was the best thing that ever happened to you
Now look at what you lost, oh

I don’t know why I cry
But I think it’s cause I remembered for the first time
Since I hated you
That I used to love you
I don’t know why I cry
But I think it’s cause I remembered for the first time
Since I hated you
That I used to love you

Oh, oh, oh, oh
I used to love you
Oh, oh, oh, oh
I used to love you

I don’t know why I cry
I don’t, I don’t, I don’t
I don’t know why I used to love you
I don’t, I don’t, I don’t
I don’t know why I cry
I don’t, I don’t, I don’t
I don’t know why I used to love you
I don’t, I don’t, I don’t
