Losing Jamie Sangouthai in June may have had more of an affect on Lamar Odom than any of us realized. In a shocking new interview, Jamie’s dad admits that his son’s death likely played a part in Lamar’s downward spiral because the childhood BFFs ‘couldn’t live without each other.’

Lamar Odom, 35, had an incredibly tough life, and the death of his best friend, Jamie Sangouthai, in June did not make things easier. The two were so close, in fact, that Jamie’s dad, Guillermo Castillo, believes Lamar wanted to die after Jamie passed away. To hear more about Lamar Odom, head over to iTunes and download the latest HollywoodLife podcast for free!

“I think Lamar is done,” Guillermo shockingly told the New York Daily News. “I think most of it is because he missed my son so much. I think deep inside they had a death wish, or a wish to die together. It sounds very cold-blooded, but I have a hard time controlling my emotions. They were so close. They wouldn’t even go to the bathroom without asking each other. They couldn’t live without each other. They went through a lot together — very powerful and beautiful times together.”

Jamie tragically passed away in June from a heroin-related infection, and Lamar was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel from an alleged drug overdose on Oct. 13. The guys knew each other since they were just kids, and Jamie was the best man in Lamar’s 2009 wedding to Khloe Kardashian, 31. He also appeared as a regular on the E! show Khloe & Lamar.

Recently-aired episodes of Keeping Up With The Kardashians showed Khloe comforting Lamar over the phone after learning about Jamie’s death, and Guillermo is certain that seeing this could’ve “absolutely” triggered the ex-Lakers star’s trouble. “My son and Lamar were like brothers,” he explained.

Guillermo says he’s is hoping Lamar won’t suffer the same sad fate as his son, but things, sadly, aren’t looking good. Doctors say the 35-year-old’s situation remains “dire,” and he reportedly still only has a 50/50 shot at survival. Our thoughts remain with Lamar and his loved ones during this difficult time. Click here to watch Jamie & Lamar in happier times on Khloe & Lamar.
