It’s going to be an emotional season for Downton Abbey fans. Season six will be the show’s last, so it’s time to say goodbye to our favorite characters. In the latest trailer that was released on Oct. 16, Mr. Bates (Brendan Coyle) and Anna (Joanne Froggatt) share a sweet kiss and Lady Mary’s (Michelle Dockery) wearing a veil! Is she finally tying the knot again?
“The devotion, the romance, the celebrations will never be forgotten. Come home to Downton one last time,” the tagline in the trailer reads.
In the trailer, Mr. Bates and Anna kiss and make time stand still. Lady Mary is riding in a car wearing what looks like a wedding veil. Has she finally found the love of her life after Matthew’s tragic death? She’s come so far and been through so much.
The Granthams and the Crawleys have all been through a lot. Mary says, “It’s been such a long road. Could this really be the end of it?” Downton Abbey may be ending, but these characters will live on forever.
The final season will feature a world of change for the characters, especially Lord Grantham. The future is upon them, and they have to adapt or fall behind. “He wants to conserve the best of the past, but absolutely understands that the future beckons, and the question in this series is do they succeed,” Hugh Bonneville said at the Television Critics Association Summer Tour on Aug. 1.
The final season of Downton Abbey begins on Masterpiece on Jan. 3, 2016, at 9 p.m. ET.
