We think Lena Dunham is a very cool girl, but in her new ‘Harper’s Bazar’ interview, the ‘Girls’ star explains that she ‘certainly’ does not feel ‘cool.’ The actress posed topless in the November issue and she offered some really inspiring advice to women everywhere — check it out!
Lena Dunham, 29, isn’t afraid to show off some skin and she’s not afraid to turn 30! The Harpers Bazaar November cover girl looked stunning in the magazine, but we are also super impressed with the wise words she offered in her interview. “I am so excited about turning 30,” she explained after admitting she doesn’t feel “cool” — see exactly what she said!
“Cool is when you do whatever the f*ck you want. I don’t feel cool now, and I certainly don’t feel cool when I go to industry events. If I do feel cool, I see a picture of myself later and I’m like, ‘That was a disaster.’ What I do feel is a freedom from certain kinds of pressures. Now I don’t give a shit if you know that my jacket is from Ann Taylor,” Lena explained in the magazine.
She also admitted, contrary to the norm, that she’s actually thrilled about turning 30! “I am so excited about turning 30. I’m psyched about it because I think that being in your 20s—especially as a woman—there’s an inherent tension. Ageism exists in all directions, but it isn’t the sweet spot for being taken seriously in the workplace. I’ve been really lucky. I got to do a lot of things before I was 30 that most people don’t,” she said.
“I think women, when they’re given an opportunity are so afraid it’s going to disappear. That was my 20s. I was like ‘This may never strike again. I’m a kind of weird-looking girl, with a very specific voice, and the fact that I get to have a job is insane. I’m just as excited for my experience and my age to catch up with each other,” she added.
