Seattle Seahawks fullback Derrick Coleman was shockingly arrested and held without bail for alleged vehicular assault and hit and run! The role model for the deaf community is in some SERIOUS trouble.
Derrick Coleman, 24, was picked up by the King County police in Seattle, WA, for alleged vehicular assault and hit and run early on Thursday, October 15; he was booked into King County Jail 1:20am, according to the Seattle Times. Derrick was reportedly driving a pickup truck in the 13600 block of SE 36th Street in Seattle around 6:00pm on October 14, when he collided with a Honda Civic. Terrible!
After his collision, Derrick allegedly got out of the truck and walked away without waiting to check in with the other driver; that person was reportedly injured in the accident, potentially breaking their collarbone. A field sobriety test was performed on Derrick at the scene, but there was no indication that alcohol played a role in the incident on the crash report.
Derrick is famous for not only being a stunning football star, but for being the first deaf offensive player in the NFL. Deaf since age 3, he has been praised by the deaf community for his amazing career and stature. He uses hearing aids and reads teammate Russell Wilson’s lips to understand plays. We have to wonder what this incident will do to his role model status if he’s found guilty.
