Nearly seven months since Zayn Malik made the decision to quit One Direction, the remaining members of the group are still reflecting on his harsh departure. In a new interview, Liam Payne even admitted that the whole situation was a ‘disaster’! See what he said below!
When Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson said their farewells to Zayn Malik after he announced he was leaving One Direction on March 25, 2015, it wasn’t easy for them or their loyal Directioners. Although the boys have already done an entire tour and released two singles since Zayn’s exit, Liam couldn’t deny that losing a member was pretty traumatic after four years as a five-some!
Liam and Louis opened up about Zayn leaving the group with Good Morning Britain on Oct. 14, addressing both what caused him to leave as well as the outcome of his bold move. While Louis stayed pretty quiet for that part of the conversation, Liam jumped right on the opportunity to declare that things are okay now — but it wasn’t always that way!
“One Direction was never really Zayn’s kind of bag, if you know what I mean. His taste of music was a bit different, and I guess that’s kind of what drove him to do what he did in the end,” Liam said. “Which is not necessarily a bad thing, everyone’s come out fine from it thanks to our beautiful fans. He’s off doing what he loves as well. Both parties are winners at the end of a disaster of a situation. So, it’s all good.”
Despite the fact that some fans are still mourning 1D’s loss of Zayn, the boys seem to be doing just fine without him. They’re ready to release their fifth album, Made in the A.M., on Nov. 13 — which you can pre-order here — and they’ve even called it their favorite one yet! In fact, after 1D announced their album title, Directioners speculated that the A.M. actually stands for “After Malik,” totally dissing Zayn. Considering Liam said the Zayn situation was a disaster, maybe there really is some shade in that title!
Regardless of any shade being thrown Zayn’s way, he made sure to acknowledge his 1D roots when the boys released their first post-Zayn track, “Drag Me Down,” tweeting “Proud of my boys the new single is sick. Big love. :) x.” Disasters and cryptic album titles aside, we’re going to trust Liam in thinking that everything really is all good!
