At the Oct. 13 Democratic debate, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders explained how they would fix income inequality. Bernie said he’d make Donald Trump pay ‘a hell of a lot more’ taxes, while Hillary said she’d raise wages!
It was the Democrats’ time to shine during their first presidential debate, and both Hillary Clinton, 67, and Bernie Sanders, 74, stole the spotlight! During the event, the two Democratic frontrunners passionately discussed the unacceptable level of income inequality. Their solutions to help out millions of struggling Americans? Raise the minimum wage and tax people like Donald Trump, 69!
The Oct. 13 debate got heated over the topic income inequality in the country, reports the Washington Post. When it was Bernie’s turn to speak, he angrily declared that “millions of America are working longer hours for lower wages, and yet all the new income and wealth are going to the top one percent!”
Bernie wanted to “support small and medium-sized businesses,” what he called the “backbone” of the American economy. Bernie is a “democratic socialist,” and he said he doesn’t support “the casino capitalist process…by which Wall Street’s greed and recklessness wrecked the economy.”
“I believe in a society where all people do well. Not just a handful of billionaires,” Bernie said. Speaking of billionaires, Bernie said that if he’s elected to the White House, “Donald Trump and his billionaire friends under my policies are going to pay a hell of a lot more in taxes…in the future than they’re paying today.” It seems that the Donald doesn’t even need to be at the event to be part of the debate.
Bernie wasn’t the only one railing against income inequality. Hillary said that as president, it’ll be her “job to rein in the excess of capitalism so it doesn’t run amok.” She also said that she has a five-point economic plan to reduce inequality. Part of Hill’s plan is to raise wages. She said she wants to “raise the minimum wage, but we have to do so much more – including finding ways so that companies share profits with the workers who helped make them.”
Hillary also gave voters a reason to pick her to be the next American leader. “If you look at the Republicans versus the Democrats when it comes to economic policy, there is no comparison. The economy does better when you have a Democrat in the White House,” she said, adding that we need to have a Democrat in the White House in January 2017.” Mic drop!
What do you think about Hillary and Bernie’s comments, HollywoodLifers? Do you agree?
