Alek may have learned how to dance the Rumba this week on ‘Dancing With The Stars,’ but he also learned how to get a date! See what happened when the Switch Up formed a hot new couple below!
Dancing with the Stars welcomed back co-host Tom Bergeron this week, who is mourning the loss of his father, but there were tons of smiles and laughs in the ballroom, as the Switch Up brought new couples together and revealed lots of 10’s on the judge’s paddles!
Guest judge and former pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy brought some drama to the table with a few intense critiques. “Switch up” week is always intense and emotional, and this time, the scores are being combined with last week’s to see who will stay and who will be eliminated next week.
First, Tamar Braxton was partnered with Louis van Amstel. They did a sexy Samba to a Beyonce song. It wasn’t the most graceful but during certain parts, Tamar completely killed it! Maksim commented: “You’re an amazing performer….but every time you got together, there was a disconnect.” Bruno Tonioli said there were some “balance issues” and said it “lacked finish.” Carrie Ann Inaba said: “You own the dance floor! It wasn’t your best but next week, I know it’s going to be fantastic.” Julianne Hough pointed out that the dances are now twice as long, so there are many more steps. She said it seemed a bit “erratic.” They got a 29 out of 40!
Hayes Grier was switched to dance with Allison Holker. They danced a Disney-inspired Viennese Waltz. He looked so handsome as Prince Charming! Bruno said it ended up “kangaroo-ish,” whatever that means. Carrie Ann said it was good but to pay attention to his chin. “There was something very youthful and effervescent but with a charm and a grace about it,” Julianne said. “I wish it was a little slower. It was very jumpy and fast. You were trying [too hard] not to mess up,” Maks said. They got a 30!
Paula Deen was partnered with Mark Ballas for a Jive. Carrie Ann called her “a naughty little crazy silver fox,” but said, “that was your best dance ever!” Then Paula asked Maks to come home with her! Maks said she has toned legs so she could have done more Jive. Bruno said “nice Southern girls don’t [flash the judges!]” They got a 26.
“I think we all just witnessed something happening on the dance floor…I know it’s not natural performing with your face but practice your facial expressions,” Julianne said after their sexy dance. Maks urged him to let go and have fun.
Then, while waiting for their scores, Erin basically played match maker and forced them to say they would go on a date! Watch below! They got a disappointing score of 29!
Bindi Irwin danced the Cha Cha with Valentin Chmerkovskiy. After Bindi got the first 10 of the season last week, the pressure was on. Val’s brother Maks said: “I loved it. It was the dance of the night for sure. I smiled the entire time.” Bruno said: “You lift my spirits like a bright summer day. The foot placement was immaculate.” Carrie Ann said she went to another level tonight — with flair, style and confidence. “Regardless of who you dance with, you are Bindi and you are a ray of sunshine,” Julianne said. They got a 37, including a 10 from Maks!
Carlos PenaVega and Lindsay Arnold danced a phenomenal Quickstep! “It all glued together magnificently,” Bruno raved! “Thank you because, to me, it doesn’t get any better than that,” Carrie Ann. Julianne said he owned the dance. “That was not a great Quickstep, it was an amazing Quickstep,” Maks joked. They got a 39!
Carrie Ann started: “The stakes are so high at the halfway point, especially for you, and I haven’t done this in a while…” and then she gave her a standing ovation! “There was an element of authenticity,” Julianne said. “You’re too much in your own head…[but tonight was] very well done,” Maks said. Bruno was just screaming and squealing — I have no idea what he said! They got a perfect score of 40!
Andy Grammer and Sharna Burgess danced the Argentine Tango. “The musicality…the footwork…nailed it!” Julianne said. Maks said the performance value was amazing. “Sinfully sensual, steamy like an erupting volcano,” Bruno said. “This week, it was like watching James Dean…it was hot!” Carrie Ann added. They got a 36, his highest score.
Finally, Nick Carter and Witney Carson danced the Paso Doble. Their package made it seem like the timing would be way off, but I thought it was really good! “You’re a great performer but for me, that was not my cup of tea,” Maks said. “You found your way and you stayed in the zone,” Carrie Ann said. Julianne said it was a bit overdone in certain parts but that she admires his commitment and strength. They got a 35!
