Rumer Willis was scouted to play Serena on ‘Gossip Girl’, but sadly, she tanked the audition. See exactly why the ‘DWTS’ alum thought it went badly!
Rumer Willis, 27, was pitched to play Serena van der Woodsen back when Gossip Girl was being created — but she revealed in a new interview that she felt the audition went terribly! She also had no idea that the show’s creators had her in mind for one of the main characters. Check out all of the new details that the Dancing with the Stars winner spilled about her audition!
It’s hard to believe that Blake Lively, 28,wasn’t always the main pick to play Serena — and even Rumer said it was “totally news” to her that the CW network recommended her for the part of socialite Serena! “I felt like I did an awful audition back then,” Rumer told People on Oct. 8. “I was so young and it was, like, one of the first things I’d ever auditioned for.” You’ve got to feel for Rumer, who was super excited that one of her favorite book series was being adapted into a show. “My sisters and I were huge fans of the books – huge, huge fans so I remember we were just so excited when they said they were doing a TV show,” Rumer revealed.
Rumer Willis & ‘Gossip Girl’: No Bad Blood Between Her & Blake!
Despite her “awful” audition, the Gossip Girl team really liked Rumer as an actress, as CW casting director Dave Rapaport told BuzzFeed: “The network initially pitched us [Rumer Willis] for [Serena]…I love Rumer; she’s grown into quite an amazing actress and person.” Of course, Blake ended up with the part of Serena, but Rumer has no ill feelings towards the blonde actress. “Blake [did] an incredible job,” Rumer told People. Plus, even though she didn’t become an Upper East Sider, Rumer did play a character in an equally desirable zip code when she was eventually cast on CW’s 90210. Also, she now stars as Roxy in Broadway’s Chicago. Not a bad gig!
Can you imagine Gossip Girl with Rumer cast as Serena instead of Blake, Hollywoodlifers?
