We’re sure that ‘The View’ loves stirring up a little controversy, but co-host Raven Symone has taken things a little too far by making what some are now calling a racist comment. And they’re taking it out on the host online!
Raven Symone, 29, is getting a world of blowback for a comment she made about “ghetto” names during the Oct. 8 episode of The View. The former child star admitted that there’s no way she’d ever hire someone with a black name and admits she feels discriminatory, but yet she didn’t seem to care.

The comment came during a discussion about a study on how Americans make racist assumptions based on people’s names. Whoopi Goldberg, 59, played a YouTube clip about the “60 most ghetto names.” Raven said she was very judgemental towards some of the names in the video, which included the likes of Bon’Quisha, Roshandra and Sha’Tanya. Raven admitted, “I’m very discriminatory against the words like the ones they were saying in those names.”
“I’m not about to hire you if your name is Watermelondrea,” the former child star said to her shocked co-hosts. “It’s just not going to happen. I’m not going to hire you.” Her stunned co-hosts quickly turned away from the subject, seeming to realize Raven might have taken the conversation a little too far. But the controversy didn’t stop with that, because once word got out, social media blew up with claims that the former Disney star is a racist! Here’s what some fans had to say:
So far, Raven has yet to comment on the controversy. The show doesn’t return again until Oct. 12, but at this point, it’s best they let the backlash die down. Raven hasn’t posted any comments to her Twitter account since the show aired, but she has to be aware of what’s going on.
