Selena Gomez has come across some not-so-nice people throughout her career, but it’s friends like Taylor Swift that help her believe there is good in this world. See the sweet words Selena said about her BFF Tay in a brand new interview.
Taylor Swift, 25, is determined to care for other women and Selena Gomez, 23, feels as if her life is enhanced just by knowing Tay. Selena explained how Taylor and her squad help pull her “out of her shell,” in a new interview with Billboard — find out more!
“Taylor makes me feel empowered, like I can trust new people,” she says of the Squad. “All of those girls are so dope. We ran around taking pictures, changing dresses, dancing — super-cliche girly stuff, but it rocked. The way she cares about women is so adamant. It’s pulling me out of my shell,” Selena explained.
Selena went on to talk about haters and cyber-bullying. “I was in a bikini and got publicly ripped for being overweight. That was the first time I’d experienced body shaming like that. I believed some of the words they were saying,” she said.
Another dark time in her life, when she was diagnosed with lupus, was further darkened by the press. “I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke. I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re assholes.’ I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”
