GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson is insisting that if there were looser gun control laws in Nazi Germany, and Jews have been armed, then Hitler might not have been able to accomplish his goals. Say what??
Ben Carson, 64, is once again making headlines for his controversial remarks. The Republican presidential candidate revealed on Oct. 7 that he believes Hitler may not have been able to accomplish his goals of wiping out the Jewish community if there were looser gun control laws in Nazi Germany.
“I think the likelihood of Hitler being able to accomplish his goals would have been greatly diminished if the people had been armed,” Ben said on CNN. “I’m telling you there is a reason these dictatorial people take guns first.” The 64-year-old was asked by the interviewer to clarify his stance on gun control after he wrote in his book, A More Perfect Union, that German citizens were “disarmed by their government in the late 1930s,” making it much easier for Hitler to carry out his mission.
Earlier in the week, Ben criticized the students who were murdered in the mass shooting at Umpqua Community College. “Not only would I probably not cooperate with him, I would not just stand there and let him shoot me,” Ben said on Oct. 6 during his appearance on Fox News. “I would say, ‘Hey guys, everybody attack him. He may shoot me, but he can’t get us all.'” Since that remark, the presidential hopeful had to go back clarify his comments.
The 64-year-old said that his comment only seems controversial because it was taken out of context. Ben explained that he was asked by the interviewer at Fox News what he would do if he were in the same situation as the students at Umpqua Community College. He went on to say he was “not judging (the shooting victims) at all.” In fact, Ben explained that he was merely planting a seed because it may not be the last time a mass shooting occurs.
