‘Vampire Diaries’: Caroline & Stefan Are A ‘Thing’ Now & It’s Awkward — Watch

You can basically cut this tension with a knife. ‘The Vampire Diaries’ returns on Oct. 7, and it looks like we’ll pick up right where we left off when it comes to Steroline: the awkward middle ground. Watch this sneak peek!

Here’s what happens when one person tells the other their feelings — it becomes “a thing.” In the finale of The Vampire Diaries, Stefan (Paul Wesley) told Caroline (Candice Accola) he wanted to be with her. While her feelings for him were clear, she needed time to heal — and that’s exactly what we’re seeing in the season seven premiere. And you guys, it’s really uncomfortable. Can they ever be friends again?

“So, how’s Damon?” Caroline asks Stefan in this sneak peek. He casually is checking on the blood bags missing from the hospital, when he spots his blonde vamp sitting outside writing. “Well if the lsat time he sat around waiting decades for girls taught us anything, then I’m worried,” Stefan joked. Oh the good ol’ Katherine Pierce days. Anyways, the awkward tension continues…

“I made this a ‘thing,’ didn’t I?” Stefan asks, already knowing the answer. “I told you how I felt about you, and now it’s weird.” Caroline tried to tell him it wasn’t weird, but she admitted she was pretty much just asking about Damon to “fill the awkward silence.”

So, Stefan sets up a new rule: “You live your life, you heal. In the mean time, we’re friends,” he says.

But can two people that clearly have feelings for each other, have a history, and have amazing chemistry really be friends? Well only time will tell. Tune into The Vampire Diaries premiere on Oct. 8 on The CW at 8PM.
