Hot mom alert! Mindy Lahiri has given birth to a beautiful baby boy, but that is not going to stop her from being a cool working mom…or is it? When she tries to bring Leo to work, not everyone’s reaction is a gasp of joy.
Mindy (Mindy Kaling) and Danny (Chris Messina) are proud new parents, but the road won’t be easy. In the Oct. 6 episode of The Mindy Project, Mindy attempts to fall back into her role as an OB/GYN, but it’s not that simple. During her maternity leave, a new doctor has been hired at her and Danny’s practice, and he doesn’t exactly burst with glee when Mindy returns to her kingdom. The queen expects to reign over her subjects like no time has passed, but it doesn’t go as planned!
The bitch is back, everyone! (That’s the name of the episode; I’m not calling Mindy a bitch.) When Mindy Lahiri breastfeeds Leo on the subway in this episode, she’s armed with the usual sass when a Southern stranger chastises her for it. This being a comedy, Mindy goes to her office later to show off Leo for the first time, only to discover that that same guy from the train has been hired as the new doctor, Jody (Garret Dillahunt)!
When Mindy and Jody have a verbal showdown in front of the whole staff, it becomes clear that Mindy is no longer the boss. It’s heartbreaking to watch her get dethroned, but it’s humbling for Mindy and she’s gained some new perspective: though she can still be a doctor, she has a new responsibility to be a mom, too. So begins what’s looking to be the overarching theme of the season: will Mindy return to work full time, or will she quit her job to stay home with her son? Also, will she be able to tell Danny how she really feels about it?
Will Mindy Tell Danny How She Feels About Staying At Home?
Though Mindy and Jody clashed heads, he can’t get rid of her that easily, and I suspect that this isn’t the last we’ll see of Mindy at her office. She was married to her job before she even met Danny, and that’s not going to go away anytime soon. Mindy is one of my favorite characters on TV right now because she doesn’t back down from stressful situations like this, or take criticism like Jody’s sitting down. More importantly, I know that she will eventually have a heart-to-heart with Danny and tell him how she really feels about going back to work.
Hollywoodlifers, do you think Mindy should go back to work at Schulman & Associates, or be a stay-at-home mom?
