They may not be dating anymore, but Rihanna is always going to have a place for ex, Chris Brown, in her heart. The singer holds nothing back about her tumultuous relationship with the ‘Loyal’ singer in a new interview, and admits she’ll care about him forever — here’s why.
Rihanna, 27, makes one thing very clear in her Vanity Fair interview: She’s not dating Chris Brown. But she doesn’t hold a grudge against her ex, either. In fact, she has nothing but nice things to say about him in the lengthy article, and isn’t afraid to admit that he still has a place in her life…even after all they’ve been through.
“I don’t hate him,” Rihanna admits. “I will care about him until the day I die. We’re not friends, but it’s not like we’re enemies. We don’t have much of a relationship now.” The 27-year-old famously got back together with Breezy in 2012, three years after he assaulted her before the 2009 Grammy Awards. But even after their wild history, RiRi says she still felt she needed to stand up for Chris to the public.
“I was very protective of him,” she tells the mag. “I felt that people didn’t understand him. Even after.” In the end, though, she figured out she eventually just had to “walk away.” But although she made that decision, it’s pretty clear from this interview that her feelings were still there — and always will be….she’s just finally come to the realization that the toxic romance simply won’t work out.
Even though she’s been linked to several guys since the final breakup, Rihanna insists Chris was her last “real boyfriend.” However, we know interviews are generally done weeks — or even months — before they’re released, and things have definitely seemed to be heating up between the “Diamonds” singer and Travis Scott throughout the last month. Could he FINALLY be the guy she needs to move on from Chris?!
