Okay, this is just ridiculous. A lingerie company is now offering Halloween partygoers the chance to dress up as a sexy version of the Internet’s latest social media sensation: the NYC Pizza Rat. What do you think — cute or oh so cheesy?
Remember Pizza Rat? You know, the determined rodent that became a huge social media phenomenon after a video of it carrying an entire slice of pizza down a NYC subway staircase went viral back in September 2015? Well, thanks to the purveyors of the sexy Donald Trump costume, you can now dress up as the famous vermin, albeit with a very sexy spin. Hey, ’tis the season for ridiculously sexed-up pop culture-inspired costumes, right?
We really don’t know what to make of this. The costume, which is sold by lingerie company Yandy.com and retails for a cool $89.95, features a grey tube dress with a matching hood adorned with cute little mouse ears, a long tail and two slices of pepperoni pizza — despite the fact that the real Pizza Rat was only carrying one slice and it was plain cheese. Like the original video, the costume is somehow both gross and semi-cute at the same time, and yet, it’s bound to get at least a few laughs. “Everyone was going crazy over the pizza rat video and we thought it would make an adorable cuddly costume that would get anyone a lot attention and perhaps some laughs,” Chad Horstman, CEO of Yandy.com told the NY Daily News.
Of course, this is hardly the company’s first headline-making Halloween costume. Back in 2012, the company landed itself in serious hot water with the makers of Sesame Street after it put out a racy Big Bird outfit featuring thigh-high stockings and a revealing yellow dress. Not to be outdone, the site has already put out more than a few outrageous options for Halloween 2015 including a sexy Donald Trump costume featuring tiny shorts, a red tie, blazer and even a hat that reads his slogan “Making America Great.” Now that is sure to make a splash!
Still, as ridiculous as the Pizza Rat costume may be, it’s not nearly as offensive as some of the other pop culture-inspired costumes we’ve seen as of late. For starters, there is the “Lion Killer Dentist” costume, which was inspired by Minnesota dentist Dr. Walter James Palmer, 55, who killed Cecil The Lion, and features a blood-splattered smock, bloody gloves, dentists tools and a severed lion’s head. And then, who could forget the insensitive “Call me Caitlyn” costume, which seems to do little more than reduce the trans activist to a joke for people to laugh at. And here we thought Halloween was about harmless spooky fun and candy.
Tell us HollywoodLifers, would you wear the Pizza Rat costume?
