Step aside, Jimmy Fallon, Jay Leno is back! Jimmy was giving his nightly monologue on ‘The Tonight Show,’ when the audience received quite the surprise! In the middle of his speech, Jimmy asked for a sub-in and Jay showed up!

Just like old times! Jay Leno, 65, surprised Tonight Show viewers when he returned to his old stomping grounds on Oct. 6. The audience was unaware of Jay’s presence until Jimmy Fallon, 41, stopped in the middle of his opening monologue after he “pulled” a hamstring, and asked for someone to take his place on stage! Watch Jay make his return here!

Did we just take a trip back in time to 2014 when Jay was still hosting the late night show? After Jimmy pulled a “hammy” and hilariously complained about the pain, he asked for someone to sub-in because, much like the show, the monologue must go on! Jay immediately ran up to the stage as the 41-year-old graciously stepped aside and let the former host take over for a few monologue jokes! Jimmy even tagged back in to do a few jokes with Jay. Watch the video above.

Although Jays’ return to The Tonight Show was a bit of a surprise, the timing was just perfect. The 65-year-old’s show, Jay Leno’s Garage, makes its debut on Oct. 7 at 10 p.m. on CNBC! It was the perfect place for Jay to promote his new show.

Not too long after Jay retired from his hosting duties, the 65-year-old returned to The Tonight Show, but this time he was sitting in the guest seat! During his guest appearance, the former host performed stand-up, reminisced with Jimmy and even threw some shade at the new host! It was all in good fun though.
