A fatal heart condition known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy may be to blame for the death of Caleb Logan, according to his mother, Katie. The teenager, whose full name is Caleb Logan Bratayleys, died unexpectedly at the too-young age of 13 on Oct. 1, after having suffered from what his mother called on Instagram an “undetected medical condition. “ Now, she has revealed that the heart condition, which can be deadly, actually runs in their family. We have all of the gut wrenching details.
Caleb’s mother, Katie, had already revealed that Caleb had likely died as the result of an “undetected medical condition.” Now, though, she and Caleb’s father, Billy, are elaborating on that initial description.
Caleb’s family has a history of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, they have confirmed to ABC News. The deadly condition, which can have very few or no symptoms entails the heart muscle becoming “abnormally thick,” according to the Mayo Clinic. The disease can lead to abnormal heart rhythms which can sometimes result in death.
Though this must be the most devastating time for Caleb’s parents, they have been very proactive in updating the public on the death of their son. On the evening of Oct. 5, they took to Instagram to share what they had learned. “Tests have confirmed today that Caleb passed away from an undetected medical condition. We’ll have more definitive answers in the coming weeks but ask that you help us celebrate his life instead of focus on his death.”
We are sending Caleb’s family so much love and strength during this horrific time.
