At ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ everyone’s a family, and this definitely proves that! Host Tom Bergeron just announced on Twitter that his father is sick and he’ll be skipping the Oct. 5 show, to stay at his bedside. Of course, one of his ‘DWTS’ pals will be stepping in.
“I’ll miss 2morrow’s
#dwts to be at my Dad’s bedside. He’s given me a lifetime of support. Time to return the favor,” Tom Bergeron tweeted with a photo on Oct. 4, of himself as a kid with his father. Alfonso also posted the photo, writing, “I will be filling in for @tombergeron tomorrow night on @dancingabc. I will be there with a heavy heart for my friend Tom and the Bergeron family.”
This will technically be the second time Alfonso’s stepping into Tom’s shoes — he also took over as host of America’s Funniest Home Videos this year, a role that was once Tom’s.
“His advice to me from the beginning was, ‘Just be yourself, have fun with it, and do what you do,’” Alfonso, 44, told Us magazine of Tom. “He’s been incredibly supportive of everything that we’re doing. He’s very happy for me. I was his pick from the beginning to take his place [on America’s Funniest Home Videos]. That’s a wonderful thing.”
This week of Dancing with the Stars will most likely include a ton of emotions — the celebrities must choose a song that encompasses a memorable time or incredible life experience. This is always a sad/happy week, with a lot of tears.
Do you think Alfonso’s a good replacement for Tom? Let us know!
