Well, this could’ve changed everything! Nicolas Cage has revealed that he turned down the chance to play a major character in the epic ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy. Who was he going to play? Find out now!
Nicolas Cage, 51, seems to be in almost every movie you see, but he turned down the opportunity to star in one of the biggest movie franchises of all time, The Lord of the Rings, as one of the lead roles. Can you believe it?!
The action movie star revealed in an interview with Newsweek that he passed up the opportunity of playing Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The part eventually went to Viggo Mortensen. Wow! But despite rejecting the opportunity to play what would’ve been a major role in his illustrious career, Nicolas isn’t bitter about snubbing Lord of the Rings at all!
“I try to always move forward as opposed to dwelling on the past or the movies that might have happened,” he told Newsweek. “There certainly were movies that I probably would have benefited from if circumstances in my life allowed me to make them.”
When quizzed about what movies he was talking about, Nicolas made his confession. “Lord of the Rings. That trilogy. Aragorn. Or The Matrix,” he admitted. “But the thing is about those movies, I can watch them. I can enjoy them as an audience member. I don’t really watch my own movies. And so I genuinely do have the joy of watching these — especially with Lord of the Rings.”
But Nicolas isn’t upset with his movie choices. “I don’t really have any regrets,” he continued. “I think regret is a waste of time.”
Meanwhile, it’s not like Nicolas is struggling for roles at the moment. He recently appeared in the horror flick, Pay the Ghost, and is hoping to resume his role as Ben Gates in a third National Treasure movie.
The first movie of the series was a box office hit around the world, grossing over $350 million, which sparked sequel National Treasure: Box of Secrets. While a third film hasn’t been confirmed, rumors are buzzing in Hollywood that it could go into production as soon as next year. We’ll keep you posted!
But what about Nicolas Cage as Aragorn, HollywoodLifers? Would it have worked? Let us know in the comments below!
