The day is finally here! Amber Rose and hundreds, maybe thousands, of people will be marching through the streets of LA to protest racist, sexist, ableist, transphobic, homophobic, and generally offensive against marganlized groups used every day. Watch the Amber Rose SlutWalk here, live!
Amber Rose, 31, has organized an incredibly empowering event, the Amber Rose Slutwalk, due to kick off at Pershing Square in Los Angeles at 11am PST (2:00pm ET) on October 3. The event aims to bring awareness to the unacceptable actions deemed acceptable by society that offend and endanger; it’s a march for justice and to find common ground among it’s members. Click through to watch it happen live!
The event also includes a welcoming speech by Amber, speakers including OITNB‘s Matt McGorry, a panelist discussion, poetry slam, comedy show, social media “flood,” and performances by Marsha Ambrosius and Frenchie Davis.
Amber is a passionate feminist, and is hosting the event after being called every name in the book from her high-profile relationships with Kanye West and Wiz Kalifa. Think about the outfits she and Blac Chyna wore to the 2015 MTV VMAs. They donned dresses covered in a graffiti print that spelled everything out: gold digger, slut, whore, b—h, hoe, stripper.
The SlutWalk is an existing movement, created in 2011 after Toronto police told women that they should change the way they dress to not get raped — an absolutely disgusting statement. Women, and supportive men, everywhere were outraged by the statement, and wanted to fight back against the slut-shaming. Amber has told participants to “wear what the F you want.”
“I deal with a lot of equality issues in my own life, and I wanted to make a difference any way I can,” Amber told MTV News at a press conference on October 2. “So basically me and my team put our blood, sweat and tears into developing our own SlutWalk to bring awareness to what’s going on.”
“It seems as though the authorities and men would blame the women, basically insinuating that they wanted to get touched because they had on a short skirt or they had a bra top — that they were asking for it,” Amber continued. “I know from personally having male friends, there would be a girl in the club that was maybe dancing very sexy and she had a short skirt, and they would be like, ‘She’s DTF. She’s ready to go.’
“And I’m like, ‘Maybe she’s just having fun with her friends and she doesn’t like you and she doesn’t want to have sex with you.’ But usually, men — and women, also — would look at a girl like that and assume that she was not just having a good time.”
Go Amber! HollywoodLifers, will you be watching the Amber Rose SlutWalk?
