Bridget Jones is back! The first image of Rene Zellweger in Bridget Jones’s Baby was released on Oct. 2, and from what we can tell, she’s got a whole new look. See it here!
It’s been 14 years since Renee Zellweger first charmed her way into the hearts of fans as the endearingly hapless Bridget Jones in Bridget Jones’s Diary. Now, the 46-year-old is set to reprise her role once more, this time for the film’s long-awaited third installment, Bridget Jones’s Baby. As if we weren’t excited enough, Universal Pictures released the first image from the film on Oct. 2, in which we get a sneak peek at the new, more modern Bridget. What do you think of her new look?
It’s finally happening! Renee has officially begun production on Bridget Jones’s Baby, according to a tweet from Universal Pictures on Oct. 2, which also included the first image of the actress in character. In the photo, it’s clear that times have changed since we last checked in with the singleton, as Bridget appears to have upgraded her pen-and-paper journal for a more modern version, as she cradles an iPad and offers a sweet smile.
While the plot of the film remains a closely guarded secret, it has been revealed that Patrick Dempsy, 49, has joined the cast, while Colin Firth, 55, is back on board to reprise his role as Darcy. Sadly, one person who will not be rejoining the case however, is Hugh Grant, 55, who famously played Bridget’s ex-boyfriend, Daniel Cleaver. “I decided not to do it, but I think they’re going to go ahead and do it without Daniel,” the actor told Free Radio in the West Midlands in October 2014. “The book’s excellent, by the way, but the script is completely different — well, the script as I last saw it a few years ago.”
Speaking of the script, the third installment will reportedly draw from Helen Fielding’s writings, and will take place between Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason and her 2013 book Mad About the Boy, which included a controversial fate for one of the favorite characters. While it has yet to be revealed what character McDreamy, sorry, we mean Patrick, will play, he seems thrilled to be on board with the cast. The actor shared an Instagram photo from the movie’s London studio in September 2015, captioning the photo: “Nice to be working in England. Renee and Colin are an absolute joy to work with!”
Bridget Jones’s Baby will hit theaters on Sept. 16, 2016. We can’t wait! Tell us HollywoodLifers — Are you excited to see the new flick? Sound off below!
