From Kendall Jenner to Taylor Swift, the celeb set loves adding an extra dose of sexy to their style with their fancy footwear — and so can you! Not only are over-the-knee boots totally functional for fall, they’re also beyond stylish — and you can SHOP for a slew of pairs in every price range right here. Be sure to read on for tips on the perfect way to try the trend.
While the over-the-knee, (or thigh-high), boot might seem like an intense choice, there are so many ways to wear the silhouette — and we love the way it can instantly dress up a get-up or add a sexy vibe to your outfit. For example, if you tuck in a pair of faux leather leggings or skinny jeans and rock a basic tee, the look will instantly have a dressier, trendier and sexier vibe.
If you are weary of trying the trend, don’t go for the “all out bombshell” look right away. Instead, pair the boots with a sweater dress or separates that aren’t overly sexy if you want to tone down the look. Summer may be over, but that doesn’t mean shorts season is totally behind us. Rock a pair of winter shorts, (in a tweed or houndstooth), with tights and boots if you just can’t seem to part with the silhouette.
One of the main reasons I love the look is because the over-the-knee boot is actually really practical. I’m not totally ready for tights season, so when I rock the boots with a dress, skirt, or shorts, it keeps me warm. They’re also super warm if you wear them over a pair of pants or tights in the winter — it provides an extra layer, which is so useful for shielding the cold.
I’m totally obsessed with a high-heeled boot, but that isn’t the only way to try the trend — you can totally rock a flat over-the-knee boot if you want a style that’s both fashionable and functional. The options are endless!
The best piece of advice I can give you is to try them on — with different cuts and fabrics, it’s important you find a pair that’s right for your body type, fits your leg comfortably and looks totally chic. Don’t get frustrated or give up if the first couple of pairs you try don’t work for you — and it’s a total myth that more petite gals can’t totally rock the look! It’s also really important to play with proportion — the most flattering way to sport the style is to show a hint of skin between the dress/skirt and the top of the boots. If you rock them with something too long, you totally lose the whole look.
