Christopher Harper-Mercer put his 9 victims through hell before taking their lives at Umpqua Community College in Oregon on Oct. 1. Students who survived the massacre have revealed that the gunman quizzed his victims about their religion, telling them they’d ‘see God in a second’ before pulling the trigger.
Anastasia Boylan, 18, was attending her fourth day of school at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon when Christopher Harper-Mercer, 26, burst into her classroom shot her professor point blank. He then turned to the terrified students and told everyone to lie on the floor. What he said to them next is beyond chilling!
Anastasia says that Christopher then told his victims to stand up and declare their religion. If they said they were Christian he told them ‘Good, because you’re a Christian, you’re going to see God in just about one second” before pulling the trigger. He then shot his victims one by one. Anastasia was shot but survived by playing dead.
After police were able to enter the building and kill Chris before he could take any more lives, a rescue team transported Anastasia to the hospital where doctors located a bullet lodged in her spine. Before surgery, she was able to share with her family the harrowing details of what happened in the doomed classroom.
Her father Stacy Boylan claims Christoper was openly targeting Christians. “He came in and there was gunfire. He secured the room and got their attention. He shot her professor point-blank. One shot killed him” he told CNN. “As he reloaded his handgun, ordered his victims to stand if they were Christians. And then he shot and killed them.” Another student who survived the shooting along with Anastasia also played dead to escape being killed. Kortney Moore, 18, reportedly saved herself by lying among the bodies of people who were already shot.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the victims and Roseburg community.
