Oncers were finally introduced to Merlin in the season 5 premiere of ‘Once Upon A Time.’ HollywoodLife.com spoke EXCLUSIVELY to Elliot Knight about what’s next for Merlin, including what’s going down in Camelot and so much more!
Merlin was a faceless character last season on Once Upon A Time, but now he has a face. He’s going to have a bigger role than ever in season 5 of the hit show, and Elliot Knight spilled EXCLUSIVELY to HollywoodLife.com about what to expect from Merlin in the coming episodes. From Emma to Camelot, it’s going to be a wild ride for Merlin!
We first met Merlin back in 1989, when Emma was just a child. So, where does he go from here? “Obviously, we know that Merlin is super important to what’s going to unfold in terms of events for Emma, who obviously has an impact on everyone. He’s definitely going to have an impact on everyone and everything,” Elliot told HollywoodLife.com.
Before Emma truly embraces the darkness, she travels to Camelot with King Arthur to try and find Merlin. Camelot is going to open up a new world for the Once Upon A Time characters and reveal so many answers about Merlin.
“He’s very much tied to Camelot. A lot of the answers lie in Camelot,” Elliot continued. “That doesn’t mean that he’s there, and I’m not saying that’s not true. If they want to find out where Merlin is, the answers are in Camelot.”
In addition to what goes down in Camelot, fans can expect to learn a lot more about Merlin’s backstory. Elliot revealed that digging deeper into Merlin’s past means going “deeper into the whole world of magic and all the realms that exist.”
Merlin’s sure to pop back up again, and he’s bringing the drama with him. “Whenever he is around, stuff is going to go down. Be prepared for that. There is a lot of drama,” Elliot told us. He also teased that Emma and Merlin are going to have a “link” this season. Whether or not that means they’ll come face-to-face remains unclear.
According to Elliot, at the end of the day, Merlin is “human. He’s one of the most human people. He’s not above normal feelings or interactions with people or understanding people or frustrations. He’s very much bound by that. That’s also makes him so powerful, I would think.”
Once Upon A Time airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
