Fans in Australia are PISSED after Donald Glover’s performance in Newcastle on Oct. 1. If you can even call it a performance, that is. The rapper took the stage, as promised, but did little to impress the crowd. Find out why mostly everyone in attendance was totally livid!
Donald Glover, 32, was a major disappointment to his fans in Australia this week. A major crowd gathered to see the rapper perform in Newcastle on Oct. 1, but they left at the end of the night shouting obscenities and booing Childish Gambino. Here’s why!
Donald was expected to perform at the Cambridge Hotel in Newcastle, but when he took the stage, fans did not get what they expected. Instead, the group Royalty, which was supposed to be a supporting act, did most of the work, while the comedy writer stayed off to the side, according to Cambridge Hotel employee, Dru Russell.
“Me and the staff were gutted,” Russell said. “We were expecting the same as everyone else.” He added that he thought Royalty might do a few things on stage with Gambino, but was shocked to see they were the main show. To make matters worse, Donald then cancelled his Canberra show the next day, claiming that the shows had “taken a toll.” Hmm…
Naturally, ticket holders are livid over this situation, and are demanding refunds. Donald was even booed off stage by the same crowd that had been eagerly chanting his name earlier in the evening, while several fans shouted obscenities. The 32-year-old appeared to be shocked by the reaction, according to The Herald, and users took to Facebook immediately after the show to complain.
“That was a massive middle finger to Newcastle,” one attendee said, with another adding, “A lot of that crowd were under 18 and that was not a cheap gig, I love you donald but that wasn’t cool.” The concert promoters are meeting on Oct. 2 to discuss what should be done about refunds.
