So awful! A mass shooting has occurred at Umpqua Community College, in Oregon. Multiple reports say at least 10 are dead, including the shooter. Initial reports state the shooting occurred in the science building, called Snyder Hall.
A shooter was at Umpqua Community College on Oct. 1 and open fired on students. The suspected gunman, identified as Chris Harper Mercer, 26, is dead after exchanging gunfire with police after he reportedly killed 9 people at the Roseburg, Oregon school. Victims were found in multiple classrooms of the school. So horrible.
There are multiple reports of several people dead in a mass shooting at an Oregon community college, according to KATU News. The shooter was reportedly at Umpqua Community College, according to a tweet from the Douglas County fire department. Chris reportedly began at Snyder Hall, a mix English and science building located on the south east end of campus, where gunfire was exchanged between shooter and dispatch officer.
“Active shooter at UCC. Please stay away from the area,” the Douglas County fire department tweeted at 1:44 p.m. Eastern time. A student took to Twitter to write a shocking tweet, “Omg there’s someone shooting on campus,” wrote Kayla Marie. “Students are running everywhere. Holy God.”
The shooter was reportedly detained, according to CNN, but authorities confirmed that Chris was dead. 7 people have reportedly been wounded in the shooting. Mercy Medical Center told the network that they are expecting an “unknown number of patients.” Douglas County Fire Marshal Ray Shoufler told the outlet, “We arrived to find multiple patients in multiple classrooms. Law enforcement was on scene and had the shooter neutralized.” He also stated that two patients died while being transported to a hospital.
“There is a situation going on out there but we don’t have any more information at this time,” Hutson told the outlet. It’s unclear whether more than one person is involved.
UPDATES: “At about 10:38 am today, the 911 center received a report of a shooting at Umpqua Community College. Police units from multiple jurisdictions have responded. Monique Danziger, Public Information Officer at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center in RiverBend, Springfield, OR tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY: “We are currently set up for six patients. We currently have one male and two females, one of whom is 18-years-old. We are prepared to accept more. We are located about an hour away from the college. The patients have been helicoptered in.”
Umpqua is a two-year school with roughly 3,300 full-time students and 16,000 part-time students. It was established in 1964.
