This is just so terrifying. A horrific shooting took place in Oregon at Umpqua Community College and the shooter, 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer, is reportedly dead. Chris reportedly killed 9 people and students were tweeting from inside the campus as it was happening. He reportedly went from classroom to classroom and opened fired on students — this is just so awful.
UPDATE: The gunman has been confirmed dead, according to a press conference held Oct. 1.
Douglas County Commissioner Chris Boice told CNN, the shooter — identified as Chris Harper Mercer — has been detained. We told you that 9 are dead and 7 people have reportedly been wounded. Douglas County Fire Marshal Ray Shoufler said: “We arrived to find multiple patients in multiple classrooms. Law enforcement was on scene and had the shooter neutralized.” HollywoodLife.com spoke to Mercy Medical Center and they told us: “As of 11:40 am we are treating six patients from the (Umpqua college) shooting and we have 4 more on the way. At this time I can not share any other information on the patients. We are updating our Facebook page as new information becomes available.” The shooter reportedly started his rampage in the science building and went classroom to classroom shooting students. One eyewitness account claims it sounded like “fireworks” and the gunshots lasted for about 60 seconds.
There are roughly 3,300 full-time students and 16,000 part-time students at Umpqua.
