A mass shooting occurred at Umpqua Community College, in Oregon on Oct 1 and the gunman, who was said to be 26-years-old Chris Harper Mercer, has been killed after a shootout with police. 9 students are reportedly dead and there could be even more victims.
The man behind the horrific shooting at Umpqua Community College has been killed. After opening fire and going from classroom to classroom in Snyder Hall, systematically killing students, the gunman — who was identified as Chris Harper Mercer, 26, — was involved in a shootout with police and he was killed.

“Shooter was a male subject. The shooter is deceased,” John Hanlin, Sheriff of Douglas County, County Commissioner said during a press conference. The shooter was revealed to be Chris Harper Mercer. Also, Douglas County Fire Marshal Ray Shoufler said earlier: “We arrived to find multiple patients in multiple classrooms. Law enforcement was on scene and had the shooter neutralized.” We told you that HollywoodLife.com spoke to Mercy Medical Center and they said: “As of 11:40 am we are treating six patients from the (Umpqua college) shooting and we have 4 more on the way. At this time I can not share any other information on the patients. We are updating our Facebook page as new information becomes available.” An eyewitness account claims the shooting sounded like “fireworks” and the gunshots lasted for about 60 seconds.
We also spoke with Mary Ann Johnston, Records Clerk For The Douglas County Sheriffs Office: “At about 10:38 am today, the 911 center received a report of a shooting at Umpqua Community College. Police units from multiple jurisdictions have responded. We have no further details at this time. There are no threats at this time.” According to Superintendent Richard Evan, the campus is secure but it is still a crime scene.
