Kylie Jenner, when you posted an “8 AM” selfie on Instagram on Sept. 30, you looked absolutely adorable. Like any 18-year-old who just rolled out of bed, you were in sweatpants and a t-shirt without a stitch of makeup. And even though Hollywoodlife.com has heard from an insider that Tyga is planning to get back at you for posting nonstop Snapchat couples videos — by filming you without makeup — you are clearly undaunted.
Tyga, 25, seems to think that you were devastated by some recent unflattering photos that were snapped of you without makeup, but you just showed him. Instead of waiting for Tyga to film you bare-faced on the sly, you beat him to the punch, Instagramming your makeup-free photo yourself, and you couldn’t look better. In fact, you have Instagrammed yourself without makeup before, even though you do the heavily made-up look far more often.
What you clearly realize is that it’s so important to not always show yourself looking absolutely perfect. You have 37.5 million Instagram followers. That’s an astounding number and no doubt, many of those millions are young women. They are fascinated by you and your life, which they perceive to be ultra exciting. They are also obsessed by how you’ve transformed yourself from a pretty, teenaged girl into a bona fide bombshell beauty in the past year.
Your lips have been enlarged to pillows and your artful makeup tricks — heavily lining your eyes, using loads of mascara, expertly shading and sometimes wearing colored contact lenses — have all given you a very Kim Kardashian-inspired look that is far more sophisticated than your eighteen years. But many of your millions of young female followers are simply too young to try out your makeup tricks, or can’t wield makeup brushes as well as you, or aren’t allowed by their parents, to fully transform themselves like you do.
Instead, they may look in the mirror at themselves and feel intimidated — like they can never be as stunning and sophisticated as you. That’s why it’s great for you to show them that you don’t wake up like that, and that you are perfectly comfortable with your un-made-up face, just like a regular girl. Just being your unvarnished self lets them know that it’s okay to be comfortable in their own skin. They don’t have to have unrealistic expectations about themselves.
Other celebrities have set out to prove the point that they don’t wake up looking red carpet ready and that that’s perfectly okay. Tyra Banks, 41, and Chrissy Teigen, 29, just appeared on the Sept. 28 episode of their new show, FABLife, without an ounce of makeup. Zendaya, 19, posted a no-makeup, no-filter selfie on Instagram on Sept. 25; Sofia Vergara, 42, posted a makeup-free Instagram on June 21, Heidi Klum has posted no-makeup selfies multiple times and and Julianne Hough, 27, who rocks a series of highly glamorous hair and makeup looks on Dancing with the Stars, went makeup-less on Instagram on Sept. 23.
Kylie, you and other stars who are willing to show that they are completely comfortable au naturel really help to fight self esteem issues among young women. It is perfectly fine not to be perfect. So thanks, Kylie, for reminding your fans of that highly important point.
Do you agree, Hollywoodlifers? Let me know.
