Fitz handed Mellie divorce papers on the Sept. 24 premiere of ‘Scandal.’ We’ve been down the divorce road before, but Tony Goldwyn reveals that Fitz is ‘determined’ to end his marriage to Mellie, and it’s going to get ‘ugly.’
In the midst of Sally Langston (Kate Burton) exposing Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) and Olivia’s (Kerry Washington) relationship to the world, Fitz took a huge step in trying to divorce Mellie (Bellamy Young). Tony dished Scandal season 5 scoop in an all-new interview, and it’s going to get CRAZY. Fitz is “not playing around” about his divorce, and things are about to get “very, very ugly.”
Fitz kicked Mellie out the White House at the end of season four after learning she was responsible for the deaths of 12 jurors. Tony told our sister site Variety that Fitz was hurt by Mellie’s “profound betrayal,” and now there’s “no turning back.”
“He’s been wanting to do it for years, but he’s been blocked by Olivia and Mellie,” he told the outlet. “So now the opportunity to just get it done and move forward is a very natural move for Fitz. He’s through with the game playing. He wants to move forward.”

Fitz has thrown out the word “divorce” time and time again, but he’s really serious about it now. “Fitz is determined. He’s determined,” Tony continued. “There may be circumstances which make that complicated, but he’s not playing around. I can also safely say that Mellie will not be happy about that.”
Well, in the season 5 premiere, Sally revealed his relationship with Olivia on national television, so now Fitz has that to deal with. Unfortunately, it’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
“The whole thing is very, very ugly. Fitz is enraged at Mellie, disgusted with Mellie, and he feels that he’s done with Mellie, but they have a very complicated relationship and he can’t just write her out of her life. Still, he’ll have no fury and Mellie is no scorned woman. She’s not going to talk anything laying down. At the end of the day, what Mellie wants is to be president of the United States so her ambition fuels her fire against Fitz or forces her to align with Fitz if it serves her political purpose so we’ll see. But it’s very messy.”
