We’re so relieved to hear that Kim Zolciak is feeling better after she suffered a terrifying mini stoke on Sept. 23. But is she well enough to return to ‘DWTS?’ HollywoodLife.com reached out to a medical expert to learn the probability of her return.
It’s been a scary couple of days for Kim Zolciak, 37. The Dancing with the Stars contestant suffered a mini stroke on a flight from Los Angeles, Calif. to Atlanta, Ga. on Sept. 23 that left her speechless and completely numb on the left side of her body. Thankfully, the mother-of-six is in recovery, but will she be well enough to return to DWTS next week? HollywoodLife.com reached out to Dr. Bruce Lee, M.D. to find out whether Kim will be able to return to the show.

“If Kim has been evaluated and put on blood thinners if need be, there is no reason she can’t return to her regular routine,” Dr. Bruce Lee, M.D. told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “She could return to the strenuous activities involved with Dancing With The Stars if she gets the OK from her doctors.” Tony Dovolani has been by her side in the hospital, so she’s got the support her DWTS family behind her!
Well, that’s certainly a good sign! Still, while she may be able to make a full recovery, this is hardly the end of the road for Kim. As Dr. Lee continues to explain, Kim could have a condition that caused her body to create blood clots, which may have led to the mini stroke. “Kim Zolciak would have been given tests to determine if she’s prone to forming blood clots and if she is, she needs to be on a medication called blood thinners.” Dr. Lee explained that blood clots can sometimes occur due to certain medications like birth control or from having a large fibroid tumor. At this time, it’s undetermined what caused her to have her mini stroke.
Since Kim was sitting for a long period of time on her flight, the doctor suggests that could’ve been one reason as to how she suffered a mini-stroke. “If a person is immobile for a long period of time, like Kim was on her flight from LA to ATL, a blood clot in the leg could have been formed,” the doctor continued. “The blood clot could have broken into pieces and a part went into her brain. When traveling on an airplane, it is a standard recommendation to always get up and walk around every hour.” So scary!
