Tisha Campbell-Martin’s music video for ‘Steel Here,’ in which she admits to being raped at three years old and writes her rapist’s apology letter on her body, has gone viral. Here’s everything you need to know about the inspirational actress/singer.
You may have just heard about Tisha Campbell-Martin, 47, for the first time because of her now-viral music video for “Steel Here,” but she’s actually been in the industry for quite some time! To help you get to know her better, here are 5 important facts!
In case you haven’t been keeping up, Tisha released her “Steel Here” music video on Sept. 21. In the clip, she reveals that she was raped at just three years old, and cries huge streaks of black mascara reflecting on that time. She even gets her rapist’s apology message written across her body. Here are five things to know about her:
1. She’s an actress
Tisha may have gone viral for this music video, but she’s actually only put out one album back in 1993 — acting is her real craft! The 47-year-old had starring roles on Fox’s Martin from 1992-1997 and ABC’s My Wife & Kids from 2001-2005. She’s also starred in films like The Last Place On Earth and Zack & Miri Make A Porno.
2. She has a new show starting this fall!
Now, Tisha is ready to get back to TV! She’s starring on Ken Jeong’s ABC show Dr. Ken, which premieres on Fri., Oct. 2, which is about the daily life of a brilliant physician, who is balancing work and family life. She plays a character named Damona, who is the hospital receptionist.
3. Her video went viral without any publicity
After the video started getting traction online, Tisha took to Instagram to reveal that she filmed the whole project with “no major label, no big machine shoot, no publicist even.” And her songwriter pal, Big Shiz, revealed that this is “just the beginning,” so hopefully we’ll see a lot more from her musically.
4. She’s starred in other singers’ videos
Tisha’s actually no stranger to shooting music videos, even though her 1993 album didn’t garner much success. She starred in Will Smith’s videos for “Will 2K” and “Wild Wild West,” as well as Toni Braxton’s for “You’re Makin’ Me High.”
5. She’s a family lady
Tisha married Duane Martin, an actor-turned-real estate developer in 1996, and they’ve been together since. They have two sons together named Xen and Ezekiel.
