A dad’s gotta do, what a dad’s gotta do. Ryan Reynolds may be super famous, but he’s still a dad. That means doing typical dad things — including taking his baby’s temperature. Watch him hilariously describe his daughter James’ first fever!
Ryan Reynolds, 38, may be tough on screen, but when it comes to his daughter, James, 9 months, he’s a pile of mush. The new dad stopped by Live! With Kelly and Michael on Sept. 21, to talk all things baby — including rectal thermometers!
When hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan started inquiring about baby James, Ryan replied: “She’s good. She didn’t sleep last night… first fever.” The crowd quickly felt bad for him, but he replied “Awww, it’s normal! It’s fine.”
He then broke down how it came to be that they knew she wasn’t feeling good. “I was told to check her temperature… through the rectum, which for me it was like… ‘Noooo, it can’t be. There’s a mouth! There’s an armpit. There’s gotta be something!'” Poor James. He went on to add that the doctor said one person should distract her (wife Blake Lively) while the other does the dirty work.
“You can’t distract from that!” he joked. “I warmed it up and everything… but I’d be like ‘what is back there?’. It was terrifying, though. It all went well, though. I didn’t lose it. It came back out.” He even joked that when she gets married and he’s walking her down the aisle in the future, she will say to him, “‘I know what you did.'”
Ryan Cut Ties With Longtime Friend Over Daughter James
When it comes to his daughter, Ryan is one protective papa bear. The actor revealed something heartbreaking, his longtime friend tried selling photos of James for money. “A guy that I’d known for my whole life, one of my closest friends growing up, he had been shopping pictures of my baby around. I kind of got in front of it, which is good. But it was a slightly dark period. A bad couple of weeks… It was like a death. It was like one of those devastating things to find out,” stated in GQ’s October cover.
He no longer is friends with said person — for good reason. “There isn’t really a conversation to have. It’s just, ‘Oh, well, now I’m never going to see you or talk to you again, unfortunately.’ That’s kind of how it worked out.”
