Stars like Lady Gaga, Julianne Hough and Sarah Hyland all rocked sexy, subtle smokey eyes at the Emmys on Sept. 20, and it turned out to be our favorite beauty trend of the night! Get expert tips on how to get the look right here.
Smokey eyes are always a classic look, and we saw a few gorgeous takes on the trend at the 2015 Emmy Awards on Sept. 20. We spoke with Sam and Nic Chapman, makeup artists and the founders of Real Techniques brushes on how you can copy the date night look.
Sam and Nic told HollywoodLife.com exclusively: “The best overall look at the Emmys was Lady Gaga. The understated smokey eye, exaggerated lashes and gorgeous nude lipstick complemented her outfit perfectly. Her skin is flawless and the natural blush creates the perfect amount of contour. To get her look, we recommend the Real Techniques Bold Metals 300 Tapered Blush.”

Sam and Nic also offered tips on how to get a stunning smokey eye on yourself:
“To create the perfect smokey eye, choose colors other than black. Black can look sexy and sultry but when using black there isn’t much variation, so if you use other colors, you can create depth and contour on the eye. Use the Real Techniques Bold Metals 200 Oval Shadow brush and the Real Techniques Bold Metals 201 Pointed Crease brush for a contour. This applies with eyeliner in the lash line too — a grey eyeliner will give just as much definition but will be softer around the eyes. To apply liner, use the Real Techniques Bold Metals 202 Angled Liner brush. When blending the eyeshadow, blend from the lash line out. This creates the illusion of thicker and fuller lashes and can help exaggerate the eye shape. Always finish a smokey eye with plenty of mascara.
Apply a concealer under the eyes after all eye shadow is finished — this will help to achieve a clean, fresh finish and will give the illusion of a brighter eye. Use a deluxe crease brush like the Real Techniques Starter Set (Deluxe Crease Brush) to apply the concealer under the eyes — this brush will use less product over a broader area creating a more natural finish.”
