Bill Maher is another famous face furious with the support given to Ahmed Mohamed in the wake of his wrongful arrest. Bill raged on TV about the ‘lack of perspective’ in Ahmed’s case — and sided with the teachers who turned him in.
Bill Maher, 59, held nothing back on the September 18 episode of Real Time With Bill Maher, saying that Ahmed Mohamed, 14, built a clock that looked just like a bomb, and that his teachers should be defended because most terrorists are usually Muslim. Bill does not stand with Ahmed, and it doesn’t look like he ever will.
“The people at the school thought it might be a bomb, perhaps because it looks exactly like a f—king bomb,” Bill angrily told his panelists during the Real Time segment. “Look, this kid deserves an apology — no doubt about it. They were wrong. But can we have a little perspective about this? Did the teacher really do a wrong thing?”
Panelists Jorge Ramos, Chris Matthews, Mark Cuban, and presidential hopeful Gov. George Pataki all discussed the topic with Bill, most of them agreeing with his viewpoint. Bill went on later in the show to further defend Ahmed’s teachers for turning him in, because he apparently looked like how people view terrorists. Seriously, Bill?
“It’s not the color of his skin,” Bill said. “Excuse me, somebody look me in the eye right here and tell me. Over the last 30 years, if so many young Muslim men … and he’s young, 14, but that’s not like it’s never happened before, hasn’t blown a lot of s—t up around the world. And this guy, this kid deserves an apology, because he wasn’t one of them… For the last 30 years, it’s been one culture that has been been blowing s—t up over and over again.”
What a terrible, disappointing thing to hear out of a grown man. Ahmed is a young boy who brought a science experiment to school to excitedly show it off to his teachers and classmates, but was turned over to the police instead. Bill’s statements only further push the argument that he was arrested because of his Muslim faith and his appearance, no?
While many have gathered around Ahmed supportively, including President Obama, there are some people who aren’t taking it well. Bristol Palin and conservative teen vlogger CJ Pearson have both derided the president for inviting Ahmed to the White House. Maybe Bill’s just jealous he hasn’t gotten an invitation too?
HollywoodLifers, what do you think about Bill’s views on Ahmed’s arrest?
