‘Maze Runner: Scorch Trials’ hits theaters on Sept. 18, and HollywoodLife.com got the chance to talk to the cast, including Dylan O’Brien, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and more about the action-packed sequel. We’ve got all the EXCLUSIVE details on the new movie!
The Maze Runner’s highly-anticipated sequel, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, is one of the most intense action movies of the year. Dylan O’Brien, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and the rest of the Gladers are back for round two and have more trouble to face. HollywoodLife.com got to chat with the cast at the movie’s NYC premiere on Sept. 15 about new characters, changes from the books and how the sequel is “bigger” and “bolder” than the first.
“It’s bigger in so many ways,” Dylan told a group of reporters, including HollywoodLife.com, at the film’s NYC premiere. “The scope is so much bigger in this one. It seems like we’re in a different movie almost like every 10 minutes. And then just story wise too, the world really opens up. You find out a lot more about what’s happened to the earth and to the people. You find out more about our pasts. All of that kind of broadens it out and it’s also just more of an action movie than the first one. It never stops moving for a second.”
The sequel won’t be exactly what you read in the books. Thomas revealed that twists are coming, and the movie will be incorporating the third book, The Death Cure.
“Yes, there are definitely twists all the way through the movie,” Thomas told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “There’s a lot to do with moral dilemmas, figuring who the good guys are, who the bad guys are, what the right thing to do is…there’s a lot of that going on. We take a lot from the books. We have creative liberties and take a lot from the third book and mix it in with the second movie because a movie and a book are two different things.”
Meanwhile, The Scorch Trials will feature a number of new faces. One of those new cast members is Katherine McNamara, who plays Sonya. Her character is a member of the rebel alliance called the Right Arm, and she’s a total “badass.” Katherine told HollywoodLife.com that sequel reveals so many more dangers for the Gladers.
“It goes bigger, it goes bolder,” Katherine told us. “There’s more happening, there are more characters, there’s more danger. Once you leave the Glade, anything is possible when you’re in the Scorch. There’s literally an entire world of dangers awaiting these guys. It becomes quite the trial.”
Maze Runner: Scorch Trials will be released in theaters on Sept. 18.
