Full steam ahead! Serena Williams beat Madison Keys in the US Open tennis championship to proceed to the quarterfinals of the prestigious Grand Slam. Serena will now come face-to-face with her sister, Venus Williams!
All eyes on the prize! Serena Williams, 33, conquered Madison Keys, 20, in a thrilling fourth round match-up at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Sept. 6. Serena now has to go up against her sister, Venus Williams, 35, in the quarterfinals! Well done, Serena!
Serena easily conquered Madison in the fourth round match-up, beating her 6-3 in both rounds. In total, it only took Serena 68 minutes to beat Madison. The no. 1 ranked Serena and 19th ranked Madison had powered their way through the early rounds of the competition. Both ladies had slayed their previous opponents, and it was Madison who showed her skills by not dropping a set in the first three rounds of the tournament.
“She’s playing great,” Serena said about Venus after her win. “I barely had time to get ready for my match because she won so fast. I have to be ready for that.”
No matter the outcome of the match between the sisters, it will be a good day for the Williams family. “At least a Williams will be in the semis, so that’s good,” Serena said.
In last year’s US Open Serena was victorious, storming her way to the final, where she eventually destroyed Caroline Wozniacki 6-3, 6-3. However, Caroline’s chance of revenge faded quickly this year, after she was eliminated in the second round on Sept. 4 by Petra Cetkovska.
Whoever the eventual victor is, they will walk away $3.3 million richer because of prize money. That’s a huge incentive for anybody!
