It’s shocking to think that it’s already been one year since Joan Rivers’ tragic death at the age of 81. Joan was a force to be reckoned with, a legendary voice in comedy and fashion, and she’s been sorely missed ever since she passed.
Joan Rivers passed away at the age of 81 on September 4, 2014, following a procedure on her throat that went terribly wrong. The void in our lives that Joan has left is unimaginable, but it’s nothing compared to what her daughter, Melissa Rivers, 47, and grandson, Cooper, 14, have felt. Melissa penned a somber and touching tribute to honor her late mother, and posted it to Twitter.
Joan has fans all over the world, but none as big or as doting as her daughter. Joan was, is, Melissa’s hero, and she has struggled in this first year without her. But as she wrote, the love and support she’s received has gotten her through these tough times!
“Today marks one year since my mother passed,” Melissa wrote in the letter posted to Joan’s account. “This was a year of firsts: first holidays, first birthdays, first everything without mom, without grandma. While it’s been difficult, I’ve been amazed by the outpouring of love and overwhelming kindness we’ve received from family, friends and people whose lives were touched by the woman they knew as Joan — a woman we all miss so much.”
We have tears in our eyes reading this. We sincerely miss seeing Joan on our TVs every week both praising and making jokes about celebrities’ fashion sense. Nobody could throw shade like Joan, and she knew she was the queen. She will always be remembered!

It’s beautiful that Melissa has found such support and strength in the year following Joan’s death, and that she’s following in her mother’s footsteps as well. Melissa has officially become a smart and savvy moderator on Fashion Police, taking over Joan’s throne, and we think it’s the perfect edition. It makes perfect sense, doesn’t it?
