Whoa! The ball boys had to back off while Coco Vanderweghe bashed her racket into smithereens at the US Open. After she took a savage 6-2 loss to Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Coco beat her racket against the court floor, smashing it into pieces! Click to watch!
Yikes. Don’t get on Coco Vandeweghe’s bad side, especially if you’re an inanimate object. The 23-year-old tennis star was having a bad time during the second round of the 2015 US Open. Sadly, Coco’s racket won’t see another tennis match. After Coco lost her cool, she smashed her racket against the court, completely destroying it!
Coco was facing Bethanie Mattek-Sands during the US Open on Sept. 2. Coco was not playing her best during the match’s first set, as she ended up losing 6-2. She clearly was frustrated with her performance, and she took out her rage on her poor, innocent racket.

Yikes! Though Coco still had at least one more round to play, she wouldn’t be doing it with that racket. Coco’s anger is understandable. The US Open is the last major tennis tournament of the season. Not to mention, the winner takes home close to $2 million dollars in prize money, so there’s a lot on the line.
Coco failed to keep her cool and it looked like it led to her downfall. She lost to Bethanie in two sets, 6-2 and 6-1. Bummer. Bethanie will now go and face the winner of the Serena Williams–Kiki Bertens match. Bethanie will definitely need both her composure and her racket if she ends up facing Serena!
Speaking of Serena, taking home the prize money would be great, but there’s more at stake for her. If she wins the US Open, she will have successfully completed a Calendar Grand Slam. After winning the Australian Open, the French Open and Wimbledon, she just needs to take home the trophy at the US Open to win all Major tournaments in a single season. If she does it, she’ll be the first woman to do it since Steffi Graff in 1998!
What did you think about Coco going loco on her racket, HollywoodLifers?
