Kanye West accepted the MTV Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the MTV VMAs on Aug. 30, but unlike past Vanguard winners, Yeezy didn’t perform! Why did Kanye pass up the chance to steal the show? Hollywoodlife.com has the EXCLUSIVE!
With all the time that MTV gave Kanye West, 38, at the 2015 Video Music Awards, it’s confusing that Yeezy didn’t sing any of the songs that made him a superstar. It’s not like him to pass up a moment to show off his music skills. Now, Hollywoodlife.com has EXCLUSIVELY learned why Yeezy didn’t perform during the awards show!
Though Kanye accepted the award in the most Kanye-way possible, he chose not to perform any of his songs. No “Black Skinhead.” No “All Day.” Not even a “Jesus Walks.” Bummer! This was different than last year’s Vanguard winner, Beyonce, who tore the house down with her 2014 MTV VMAs performance. Kanye decided not to follow in Bey’s footsteps, it seems.
“He [went] back and forth with production on performing,” a source EXCLUSIVELY tells HollywoodLife.com. Kanye was supposed to rehearse a day before the Aug. 30 broadcast, the source says, but he didn’t show up! That “upset a lot of people in production.”
“He didn’t want the award this year and asked if he could accept it next year,” a source EXCLUSIVELY tells HollywoodLife.com. Perhaps he wanted to win the award next year, so it’d be closer to 2020, when he plans to run for President Of The United States. “
While Yeezy fans were disappointed that he didn’t do anything like he did at the Grammys, the VMAs were still full of mind-blowing moments. Miley Cyrus was hilarious as a host. The Weeknd brought his brand of R&B. Justin Bieber even performed his new song, “What Do You Mean,” for the first time on television! Even with Kanye choosing not to sit the show out, music-wise, the 2015 edition of the VMAs was amazing!
What do you think about Kanye not performing at the MTV VMAs, HollywoodLifers? Were you disappointed?
