While accepting an award at the 2015 Industry Dance Awards, Vanessa Hudgens dedicated the award to her dad, Greg, who she then revealed is suffering from stage four cancer.
Vanessa Hudgens, 26, showed her courageous side when she stepped on the 2015 Industry Dance Awards stage on Wednesday night, Aug. 19, and accepted the Breakthrough Performance award. During her speech, Vanessa revealed that her former firefighter father, Greg Hudgens, has stage four cancer.
How sad. Although she was there accept a very exciting Breakthrough Performance award, Vanessa only had one thing on her mind: her daddy. During her touching acceptance speech, Vanessa revealed to the crowd that her dad has been battling stage four cancer. Although it’s unclear exactly what type of cancer Vanessa’s dad, Greg, has, hearing that he is not well definitely has us thinking of the Hudgens family.
“Last year, my boyfriend, Austin [Butler], lost his mom, Lori, to cancer, and my dad has just been recently diagnosed with stage four cancer,” Vanessa said during her speech, as reported by Daily Mail. “Let me tell you, I hate cancer. I hate cancer with every cell of my being.”
Vanessa continued, “This award, it means a lot to me but I dedicate it to my boyfriend’s mom, Lori, my dad, and to all the families out there who are struggling with this, because it really takes a strong person and a strong family to be able to help those out who are going through this.” As you can see in the video below, Vanessa got choked up towards the end of the speech when she revealed her dedication. So sad.
Stage four cancer is usually very serious, reports Cancer.net. It usually means the “cancer has spread to more than one area.” Our thoughts remain with Vanessa, her dad, and their family during this trying time.
