It may be the last month of the season, but 5 Seconds of Summer is keeping the party going! The band — featuring Ashton Irwin, 21, Luke Hemmings, 19, Michael Clifford, 19 and Calum Hood, 19 — turned up the heat during their performance at the Teen Choice Awards, proving that summer isn’t over until they say it is!
5SOS gave quite a show at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards. Fans of the Aussie pop-punks were thrilled to see them take the stage at the Galen Center in Los Angeles for the Aug. 16 awards show. 5SOS got the crowd fired up with their new single, “She’s Kinda Hot.” The crowd was up on its feet and singing along with the band. What a perfect way to open the show!
The band released the song in July and followed it up with the official video on Aug. 3. The video had the band build a Mad Max-style mobile stage, full of neon lights and smoke machines, to help rally all the frustrated kids out in the world. Despite the song’s title, Ashton told Billboard that the song is an anthem “for the misfits” out there and that it’s a “revolution for our fans to get behind….to give [them] a place to belong.” 5SOS also gave their fans something to shout about before the Teen Choice awards as they hyped their new album, Sounds Good Feels Good, with an epic teaser video!
In addition to performing, 5SOS was up for six Teen Choice awards! They were nominated for Choice Music Group, Choice Music: International Artist, Choice Summer Music Star: Group, Choice Summer Tour, Choice Song for their cover of The Romantics “What I Like About You” and, as a group, they scored a Choice Male Hottie nomination! Good job, 5SOS!
5SOS wasn’t the only group scheduled to perform at the Teen Choice awards. Little Mix would bring a little “Black Magic” to the show, and Jussie Smollett and Yazz from the cast of Empire figured they would take over and run things with their performance!
What did you think about 5 Seconds of Summer’s opening up the Teen Choice Awards, HollywoodLifers? Did you think it was kinda hot?
