Raven-Symoné, 29, rushed to Kelly Osbourne‘s, 30, defense on the August 5 episode of The View, insisting that her comments the previous day were misunderstood by viewers — and initially by her and her co-hosts as well. Along with Whoopi Goldberg, 59, Raven denied that her friend, Kelly, would ever say anything racist — it’s Donald Trump, 69, who they were discussing when Kelly’s misconstrued comments about Latinos were uttered — who should be ostracized!
“I’m best friends with Kelly, Raven said. “I don’t think she’d be a racist if she was friends with me.” Raven was very insistent on this point, as the ladies had a thoughtful conversation about what happened on the last episode. Kelly was trying to make a point about Donald’s abhorrent comments regarding Latino immigrants (that they shouldn’t be allowed in the country because they’re all criminals), and wound up making comments that were…less than eloquent. “If you kick every Latino out of the country, then who is going to clean your toilet, Donald Trump?”
Yikes, Kelly. She was trying to make a funny quip about Donald, but it fell flat and offended many viewers, as well as The View‘s hosts. However, at the end of the episode, Rosie Perez apologized for jumping on Kelly so fast, and even took to Twitter later that day to apologize again: “My apologies @KellyOsbourne, I took your point wrong-#Trump #Latinos My bad. You’re heart is so pure & righteous. I adore you. @TheView” Sweet, and genuine!
On the August 5 episode, Whoopi also defended Kelly. “The point she was trying to make is that Trump’s stance on immigration will only hurt the people [he’s] counting on,” Whoopi said. “You try to get your point in, and you try to hit it, and you sometimes step in dog doo…Your head works faster than your mouth, it happens.” In other words, Kelly definitely flubbed, but she had the best intentions. She shouldn’t be called racist for her mistake!
Kelly apologized after the scandal as well, posting a deeply sorry message to her Instagram, that detailed her “f— up,” and her desire to start a conversation about Latino community in the United States. Way to make something positive out of a bad situation, Kelly!
