There’s a new ‘Late Show’ host in town– and he’s got some big-name guest stars! Stephen Colbert has just released a first promo for his new job in late night, and he got some help from Mitt Romney!
Stephen Colbert, 51, will officially usurp the Late Show throne on Sept. 8, and that means it’s time to get to know the former Colbert Report host in a new capacity. In this first promo for his show, Stephen previews what we can expect when he heads over to CBS, and that involves some top-tier talent– and politicians! Yup, hi there, Mitt Romney! Check out the hilarious clip!
Colbert then gets specific about what we’re going to see from him. “I’ll talk about the news, tell jokes, and have fascinating conversations with celebrities, athletes, musicians, and of course, politicians,” he says as he sidles up to the Mitt Romney. However, Stephen isn’t quite convinced of Mitt’s authenticity (it is a comedy show, after all).
“Wow, you do a great Mitt Romney,” Stephen says to Mitt, thinking he’s a Saturday Night Live-style impersonator. Mitt assures him, “I am Mitt Romney.” But still, Stephen just applauds his commitment. “That’s it, stay in character,” Stephen tells him.
Stephen, of course, takes over hosting duties from David Letterman, who ended his 33 year run as host on May 20. Since then, we’ve been waiting with baited breath to see what Stephen would do with the iconic title, and the time has nearly come! Watch the promo above to get ready!
What do you think of Colbert’s first promo? Are you excited to see what he does with the show or do you already feel yourself missing Dave?
